The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is now open for international students who wish to pursue their studies at the postgraduate level. It offers c.80 fully-funded scholarships to all exceptional students around the world. International students from any country outside the United Kingdom can apply for the Gates Cambridge scholarship and pursue a Master’s degree at the host institution.
The Gates Cambridge scholarship target outstanding students globally to build them against future challenges and to become leaders who will be committed to other people’s lives improvement. It also supports them financially and covers discretionary funding.
There are certain funding that the Gates Cambridge scholarships are not covered such as the cost of the bench, scientific equipment fees, and some academic resources. Those core course fees are to be covered hopefully by the academic department at the University of Cambridge.

The Scholarship Selection Criteria
The Gates Cambridge scholarships are granted to international students who are eligible base on the below selection criteria:
- the ability of the applicant to demonstrate an outstanding intellectual
- stating the reasons behind the choice of course
- having leadership qualities
- demonstrating a commitment to people’s lives improvement
Notes that, if you are ineligible for Gates Cambridge Scholarship funding, it does not stop you to benefit from another funding source of the University of Cambridge. You can check here for such benefits.
Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship
There are some eligibility criteria to make a candidate qualify for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship at the University of Cambridge. You are ineligible if you do not meet the below eligibility criteria:
- the applicant must be an international student from a country outside the United Kingdom
- he/she must apply to study one of the following courses at the university:
- Ph.D. (it is available full-time and part-time). The choice is yours
- MLitt (available full-time only)
- A full-time one-year postgraduate course with exceptions
